The Starting Point
A musician came to us with a very specific request: He wanted to safely transport his valuable baritone saxophone by bike to performances and practice sessions in the park—without every bump in the road endangering the instrument’s delicate mechanics. Anyone who has ever held such an instrument knows that vibrations are the natural enemy of precision.
The Saxophone Trailer
Since the instrument case has truly non-standard dimensions, we fabricated a custom-milled base plate with integrated bumpers. Our forged webbing eyelets and sturdy tension straps ensure that everything stays securely in place and is ready for touring. Our new suspension system is then mounted to this base plate. It can be adjusted to three weight ranges. For the relatively lightweight saxophone, we choose the softest setting. The suspension sinks slightly even when stationary, but that’s intentional—it’s what’s known as negative travel, which compensates for bumps and dips in the road. The remaining travel is then available to handle potholes, curbs, tree roots, and other obstacles.

By now, quite a few musical instruments are already being transported around on our bicycle trailers. Cellos, double basses, tubas—and even an old vintage amplifier—are all on the move with a Hinterher. Under the keyword “Music,” you can view customer submissions in the gallery.
The Real-WorldTest
And how does the trailer perform in real-world use? Here’s what Joachim had to say:

Today I rode with the instrument in its case on the suspension bike trailer for the first time in real-world conditions. Up until now, I’d only done test runs—first with just the trailer itself, then with an empty case. So it was all the more gratifying to find that the system performs very well even under real-world conditions. Thanks again for the excellent advice and for custom-building this instrument trailer for me as a musician.
Transporting this relatively valuable instrument has proven to be exceptionally safe and stable. The trailer’s suspension plays a major role in reducing vibrations, ensuring that the instrument is reliably protected. The tension straps are particularly practical: they not only allow the case to be secured very quickly and securely, but also make it just as easy to remove again—which is a definite advantage in everyday use.
Another plus is the complete independence from fuel costs—with €0 in fuel expenses, this transport solution is not only efficient but also sustainable, especially given the current situation.
