Familienradtour mit Fahrradanhänger und viel Gepäck
When we were younger, we often set out on long bike trips with just a couple of panniers and were perfectly happy with that. But anyone traveling with a family quickly realizes that this approach no longer works, because kids can’t carry everything on their own—even if they’re already riding along. So you need a different kind of luggage solution—for example, a bike trailer. And anyway, you have to bring a lot more gear—from a large tent to toys—so there’s still something to do once you reach your destination for the day. And a little comfort for the parents doesn’t hurt either. We parents benefit from camping chairs, a thicker sleeping pad, a mocha pot, and an organizational system. Because when camping, you’re constantly looking for something or having to stow it away again—and that’s usually us, the parents, who do it. That’s where Euroboxes come in handy, even if they aren’t the lightest containers to transport. Since they’re stackable, they’re pretty close to a dresser at home. That’s why we can’t help but praise the travel setup from our architect colleague Thomas. That’s exactly how we’d go on a family bike tour, too.

This year's load will be similar but lighter. Two boxes each at the front and back of the trailer, and in between, on the axle, the 25-kilogram tent.
Just so you know: I’ve never once had any problems with the trailer when it comes to carrying loads. There was just one time when the trailer slipped down a slope on a narrow forest path—that was a little unnerving, but the drawbar isn’t to blame for that 😊
Just ride with common sense! My e-bike has a motor that can recover energy when braking, so I can control the weight well on hills and even recover energy in the process. I’m looking forward to the new heavy-duty drawbar and this year’s tour.
