Café Pedal
Coffee and cake from Cafepedal are a little slice of everyday happiness!
When I retired two years ago, I fulfilled my long-held dream of owning my own café.
Requirements: I should be able to handle everything on my own*: baking, hooking up and loading the trailer, packing up the coffee machine, transporting it, setting it up, driving back, cleaning up, and of course handling all the promotional activities.
Since I enjoy biking and drinking coffee, I was looking for a portable option for myself.
I have the “Migo” coffee box on the trailer, a small sink in the camper, a water pump for running water like in a camper, and a little electricity to light up the vehicle.
And so, since the summer of 2022, the tradition has been: Homemade delicacies every Tuesday afternoon in Rümlang—on the village square, or, if it rains, right next door at Lager 196, a charming wine bar that’s open on Tuesdays and features a long table that seats many guests.
And the guests are coming in droves. My Cafepedal has become a regular weekly stop for many people—a gathering place and a spot where you can get exquisite, high-quality baked goods and the best coffee.
In the meantime, I’ve also bought a “nature” Hinterher trailer. So I make two trips to the village: once with the Cafepedal attached, and then again with the Hinterher loaded with “Rako” Euro crates. This works out well because the distances in our village are short, and it’s a breeze on an e-bike.
*Note: Of course, I'm happy every Tuesday when my husband helps me! :-) Especially because we take furniture like folding tables and chairs to the village square, or—in the summer—the small freezer with our delicious homemade ice cream.
